Castor Oil Packs: What Are They Good For?
Castor oil packs are cloths soaked in castor oil and laid against the skin (often with gentle heat.) They’re trending now for claims around digestion, detox, lymph support, and easing pain. (Health.com)
According to PubMed, the only use of castor oil that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration officially supports is as a stimulant laxative to relieve occasional constipation. (PubMed)
However, even they mention its well known popularity.
A Long History of Use
Despite limited modern research, castor oil has an overwhelming record of traditional use worldwide. Ancient Egyptians, Ayurvedic practitioners in India, and early European herbalists all used castor oil for its perceived cleansing, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. Historically, it was applied topically for joint pain and skin issues and taken internally as a remedy for sluggish digestion and detoxification - long before modern medicine began studying its effects. Always check with your doctor before starting any new wellness practice, especially if you’re pregnant, nursing, or managing a medical condition.
It’s So Easy
Gather your USDA Certified Organic Castor Oil - it should be 100% pure, cold-pressed, and hexane-free.
Use a soft cloth (flannel or cotton).
Soak the cloth with castor oil (not dripping wet).
Place the cloth on your chosen area (abdomen, joints, etc.).
Optionally cover with another cloth and add light heat.
Leave it in place for 30–60 minutes while you relax.
Wipe clean afterward.
It's simple, soothing, and easy to do - no complicated setup required.
Why It’s Worth Trying
Castor oil packs are having a moment for good reason. They’re gentle, affordable, and easy to use, offering a natural way to unwind while potentially supporting your body’s natural processes. While modern science hasn’t fully confirmed every claim, generations of traditional use speak volumes.
