Helichrysum, Arnica or Tamanu: Which One Should You Use?

Helichrysum calms the look of redness. Tamanu surrounds dry, tender skin with rich moisture. This is exactly why I put them together. :)
When a bump or bruise happens, what you put on it matters. Helichrysum, Arnica and Tamanu each have a different job. Here is the simple way to choose.
The Quick Answer
Choose Helichrysum when:
Skin looks red, bruised or stressed
An area feels tender or overworked
You want to comfort the area while caring for the skin
You need a properly diluted oil for regular use
Choose Tamanu when:
Skin feels dry, rough or depleted
You want rich, nourishing moisture
The skin barrier needs extra conditioning
You want an oil that spreads gently over a tender area
Choose Arnica when:
You specifically want a traditional Arnica cream or gel
You have an occasional bump, bruise or temporary muscle soreness
The skin is completely unbroken

What Is Helichrysum Oil Best For?
Helichrysum italicum is a small golden Mediterranean flower often called the “Immortal Flower.”
Helichrysum essential oil is used in skincare and body-care formulas to help:
Calm the appearance of redness
Comfort tender, stressed-looking skin
Improve the look of uneven skin
Condition dry or mature skin
Add a soothing element to massage
Helichrysum is multifunctional. It can bring comfort to an overworked area while also providing valuable skin-conditioning benefits.
It is a highly concentrated essential oil, so it must be properly diluted before being applied to the skin.
What Is Tamanu Oil Best For?
Tamanu is a rich botanical oil pressed from the seeds of the Tamanu fruit. It moisturizes dry skin, softens rough areas and gives a formula enough cushion to spread gently over a tender spot.
Tamanu has a distinctive earthy aroma. Some people love its warm, natural scent. Others need a little time to get acquainted with it. It smells like the outdoors because that is exactly where it came from.
In my Bruise & Bumps Healing Oil Spray, Tamanu is balanced with Helichrysum, Frankincense, Cypress and Lavender essential oils.
Tamanu oil helps:
Moisturize dry, depleted skin
Soften rough areas
Support the skin barrier
Condition stressed-looking skin
Provide a smooth base for gentle application
Helichrysum and Tamanu each have a job. Helichrysum helps calm the look of redness, while Tamanu provides rich nourishment and smooth application. They make a very useful pair.
Where Does Arnica Fit In?
Arnica is a flowering herb traditionally used in topical creams, gels and salves for occasional bruises, minor bumps, sprains and localized muscle soreness.
It is well known, but name recognition does not make it the only option.
Arnica should be used according to the product directions. It should not be applied to broken or irritated skin, and it may cause a reaction in people who are sensitive to plants in the daisy family.
Natural does not automatically mean harmless. Poison ivy is natural too, and no one is inviting that into the bathroom cabinet.

Which Luxe Apothecary Shoppe Product Should You Use?
The best choice depends on what happened, how the area feels and whether you want a light oil, a targeted application or a richer massage balm.
For a Fresh Bump or Bruise
Choose the Bruise & Bumps Healing Oil Spray.
The spray lets you cover a tender area without vigorous rubbing. It combines Helichrysum and Frankincense with Tamanu, Black Seed, Pomegranate Seed, Jojoba, Avocado and Castor oils.
Use it when you want to:
Care for a recent bump or bruise
Comfort tender-looking skin
Calm the appearance of redness
Nourish the surrounding skin
Avoid heavy massage over a sensitive spot
This formula does not contain Arnica. I chose Helichrysum and a balanced blend of oils because I wanted it to comfort the area while caring for the skin.

For One Small Area That Needs Special Attention
Choose Helichrysum Repair Oil.
This is the targeted choice for a small area that looks dry, red, uneven or stressed. A few drops can be applied exactly where they are needed.
Use it when you want:
Precise application
Focused care for a small area
A convenient oil for the face or body
Helichrysum without applying a heavier balm
A little goes a long way. This is not an oil that requires enthusiastic pouring.
For Achy, Tired or Overworked Areas
Choose the Helichrysum, Frankincense & CBD Relief Balm.
A balm stays in place and gives your hands the glide needed for a slow, comforting massage. This formula combines Helichrysum and Frankincense with THC-free CBD isolate and nourishing botanical oils.
Use it for:
Tired hands and feet
Overworked knees
Tight shoulders
An achy back
Focused massage before bed
Comfort after gardening, exercise or a long day on your feet
Why Add Frankincense in a blog about Helichrysum, Arnica or Tamanu?
Frankincense brings another layer of care to the Bruise & Bumps Healing Oil Spray and the Helichrysum, Frankincense & CBD Relief Balm.
Helichrysum helps calm and comfort stressed-looking skin. Frankincense nourishes dry, mature skin and helps it feel smoother and more supple.
They each contribute something different, which is why they work so beautifully together.
Note: Concerning Helichrysum vs Arnica vs Tamanu: Patch-test any new product before wider use, and do not apply these products to broken skin.
A large unexplained bruise, severe swelling, intense pain, frequent bruising or an injury that prevents you from using the area normally deserves medical attention. Oils and balms can provide comforting care, but sometimes a bruise is trying to tell you something.
